I have used Microsoft AutoRoute Express Europe 99 for several years and I really like its Travel Guide feature. I recently upgraded to WinXP and the program still works although I am no longer able to access the Travel Guide articles from the disc.

When I click on a place of interest, the Travel Guide window opens with a message: 'The page cannot be displayed' - it tries to access the Internet instead of retrieving the information form the disc. I've read the Help info and the problem seems to be the Internet Explorer; Autoroute is designed to work with Internet Explorer 3.02 or 4 and I am currently running IE 6 which is an integral part of WinXP. Does anybody know how to access the Travel Guide feature and make it work with the new system or circumvent whatever is interfering with it? Any ideas/suggestions are welcome! As I don't have the program, it may take a bit to get there, but we'll try Go to Start Run, and type REGEDIT Now, go to Edit Find, and type in Travel Guide and click Search. Tell me all the places it was found. To do so, rightclick on the folder that opens on the left, and choose Copy key Name.

I've just thought fully what is actually happening. When you click on the Travel Guides, it then looks in the CD. Then, it opens up a HTML file and that will open in the default internet program, eg IE6. What I was hoping, was that we could link the 'open with' entry to just Notepad, or Word, but I don't think we can The only way I can think of at this moment, is to use something other than IE, say Netscape, but even then do you really want to change all your internet programs. There may be a way, but I'm not 100% sure it'll work. What we may be able to do, is copy the content of the CD to the hardDrive, making sure to include the hidden files. Then, point to the registry keys to the hardDrive instead of the CD.

Then, for all the html pages, convert them to something else. So, if you want to go that route, lets do some background bits first, so it will go smoothly First off, go back to the Registry. If all the folders are still open, click on the + to close them all up, and then click on My Computer.
Go to Find, and type in Travel Guide again. However, if you look on the right of all the folders it finds, you're looking for a location. For example, D: Travel Guide. If D is your CDROM.
Or, just plain old d: and no location. Just look for Travel Guide, not AutoRoute.
Hopefully, it will be there. Also, if you pop the CD in, but don't run it. Close the program if need be. Then, go to Windows Explorer, and click on the CDRom drive. Then, press Ctrl F to open the Search Folders. Then, type in Travel, and see what comes up.
Note the locations, if you're not sure, rightclick on the main folder that appears, and choose properties. Hi, the search showed no Travel Guide but while exploring the CD-R I found a file EURART.

That has to be it! I tried opening it with Notepad od Word but it appears like a field of jumbled scribbles. It is in D: data and this folder contains other files, mostly M20 and DAT, plus 1 each of DCT,VLF, NDX. This must be the additional media from the Travel Guide - photos, 360 panoramic views, sounds. Also, I searched the registry for EURART and it appears in these locations: HKEYCURRENTUSER Software Microsoft Automap 6.0 EUR HKEYUSERS S-1-5-9-101 Software Microsoft Automap 6.0 EUR HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft New User Settings Automap 6.0 EUR I don't kow enough in order to make an educated suggestion but will it work to remove IE6 and istall the old IE 3.02? It came with AutoRoute so I have it on the disc.
Or make IE 3.02 default for only one of the user accounts on the pc? Found out from a friend, that you can install Netscape and use the Profile Manager to have more than one profile so each person can have their own setup. There is only the 1 netscape install but with more then one profile so each time you click on netscape it will first bring up the profile manager so you can pick the user. With just one person using netscape then when you click on it you can have it so it just opens without going to the profile manager.
You can also delete users from the profile manager. There are two ways to do so. One only deletes the user name from the profile manager but not from the profile folder and the other way deletes also from the profile folder on your hard drive. If you only delete the user name from the profile manager you can always go back and use that profile again by adding that user name to the profile manager again and every thing that was in that profile before will show up again.
