Realtek Rtl8101 Family Pci-e Ethernet Nic Windows Vista
Hi, I have removed the hardware for the Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0), and installed the hardware and software for an Edimax 802.11n Wireless PCI card. The new hardware and software operated well for the first week or so, but then suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason.

I then uninstalled and reinstalled the software and had full wireless internet for another day before it stopped working again. I cannot connect to the internet without having a functioning version of the software, but it does not seem to function. I think the problem might be that the old Realtek driver is interferring with the functioning of the network card as when I disable and uninstall the old driver the Edimax software works again for about 3 minutes before disconnecting suddely. I am not getting any error messages. Additionally when I restart the computer the realtec driver reappears!
It has been suggested to me that I should attempt to remove the drivers from the registry but am unsure how to go about doing that for the Realtek driver, could someone please instruct me on this or give me a solution to this problem. My operating system is Windows Vista, and my computer is an HP intel quadcore. Try the following to remove the device and the device driver both (I know you removed the device but I don't think you removed the driver properly). This should keep it from popping up again and that may resolve your problem. Once this is done, try again to install the wireless driver, firmware, and/or software, create a connection for this new device (you need to setup a wireless connection) and see if it works.

You need to setup a wireless internet connection in Network Sharing as well as the normal local network wireless connection and connect to it as well as the local connection. If you don't do this, you won't have an internet connection.
You need both. You also need to enable some features in the Network Sharing main box to access the internet - they are fairly well defined. I hope this helps. After reading the bit about not uninstalling all the components, it made me think of the 'realtek high definition audio driver' which is the only other realtek related piece of software on my computer. I must have other audio drivers, and I wondered if this were connected. So I made a restore point, uninstalled the realtek drivers (network adapter and audio) and low and behold internet seems to be working fine now. (I uninstalled the drivers using the help guide you sent a link to, the same method as I have been using all along).
BUT when I opened up Device Manager I have the same Realtek RTL8168 driver and now the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo Interface (I restarted after each uninstall). I am confused. I just read some stuff about the Teredo Pseudo interface, it didn't sound like a virus. I just want to get rid of everything and start again. My flat mate says the best way to do that is to alter the registry, but he doesn't know how to do that on vista. Audio is still working fine on the computer.
I have the above installed on my mobo and am getting a device coe 10 - this device cannot start, hence cannot use this ethernet port. I have tried installing new drivers from the manufacturer site for Vista - no luck. Tried uninstalling, and reinstalling - no luck.
Does anybody have any other ideas on what I can do to get this to work? I want to set up a wireless network, but have been told I will need to use this ethernet port to do so.

There appears to be a problem with the drivers currently being sent out via Microsoft/Windows update for this family of adapters. I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard which includes dual RTL 8111DL Ethernet ports. When I install the drivers supplied with the motherboard under Windows XP everything works fine. However, when I download the updated driver via Microsoft update both Ethernet ports stop working with the same fault reported by riteoh above. Rolling back to the original driver gets everything working again.
I also get exactly the same problem with Windows 7 RC (built 7100). On install with the default drivers both Ethernet ports work correctly, however if I use the updated driver from Windows Update they both stop with the same fault as I see in XP.
If I then roll back to the original driver, everything is fine. I have checked with the board riteoh is using (GA-MA790GX-DS4H) and this has a single RTL8111C chip built in, and I suspect in riteoh's case he is using this Ethernet connection rather than using a separate Ethernet card. From this I assume the driver on Microsoft/Windows Update is either defective or not compatible with the RTL8111 series.
It should therefore be withdrawn from the Updates whilst this problem is investigated. If this message is not likely to be seen by the Update team does anyone know how I can go about reporting a potentially faulty driver to them so they can investigate and rectify the problem? This is potentially a very serious issue as in most cases it means that the affected computer will have no internet access until the driver is rolled back, and since most users won't know how to roll back the driver to fix the problem without asking the question on line there could be a lot of users who end up with a PC they can't use.
